Susan Hedayati, MD, MHSc

Susan HedayatiDr. Susan Hedayati, MD, MHSc, holds the Lina Obeid Chair in Biomedical Sciences and is a tenured Professor in Nephrology and Vice Dean for Research at the Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine. She is an NIH-funded physician-scientist and clinical trialist whose primary research focuses on non-traditional cardiovascular risk factors and treatment of depression in Chronic Kidney Disease. Her scientific accomplishments have been recognized by election to the Association of American Physicians. She received the Shaul G. Massry Distinguished award from the National Kidney Foundation for her research achievements and contributions to kidney health care.

In addition to her research, Dr. Hedayati is a nationally renowned educator who served as the Training Program Director of Nephrology fellowship at her former institution, the University of Texas Southwestern, Dallas, and has used her research as a platform to mentor a broad range of over 25 trainees, from medical students to residents, fellows, and junior faculty. As a testament to her years of effective mentoring, she received the Leaders in Clinical Excellence Mentoring Award in 2020. She has been involved in graduate medical education at the national level as faculty on the American College of Physicians MKSAPS, the American Society of Nephrology board review course, and co-chair for an international clinical guideline committee for Chronic Kidney Disease.

Dr. Hedayati received her medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Research from Duke University, where she also completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Nephrology.
