Preclinical Oncology & Pharmacology Service (POPS)
Beyond animal care, veterinary and technical services, DLAR is developing a new and growing service to advance investigators’ therapeutic drug development in rodents.
We aim to provide laboratories with tailored assistance to design, plan, and execute efficacy and/or pharmacokinetic studies from start to finish. We have extensive experience with experimental planning and protocol development, drug formulation, model development, efficacy monitoring, blood/urine/tissue collection, data collection and analysis. Our initial offerings will include patient-derived xenograft tumor model establishment and maintenance, immortalized cell tumor models, surgical models, biobanking, imaging, and pharmacokinetic studies.
We are committed to partnering with investigators, but are also happy to take your ideas and turn them into data! While we are currently growing this new service, we are also excited to expand services in the future to suit investigators’ needs within the SBU community.
Veterinary Drugs & Supplies
The DLAR provides veterinary drugs for use in approved IACUC protocols. Many standard anesthetic, antibiotic and analgesic drugs are routinely kept in stock. Other drugs will need to be special ordered. DLAR places a 15% recharge on the all drug purchases to recover the cost of ordering, stocking and dispensing.
- Complete the Veterinary Drug/Supply Order Form.
- You will be asked to sign off for the drugs received.
- Drug/Supply requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
- Requested Drug/Supplies may be picked up on Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 1 pm and 2 pm.
Training Opportunities for Research Personnel
DLAR offers monthly training hands-on workshops for research personnel which focus on basic experimental techniques with common laboratory animal species. These training workshops are available, at no cost, to all SUNY research personnel working with laboratory animals.
Workshops will be held in the DLAR Training Lab (BST, Level 1) generally from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sign-ups are on first-come first-served basis and will be limited to 4 participants. Please make sure you have DLAR access prior to any trainings.
