BCC Consulting Process

  1. The first step is to complete an online project request form before the first meeting.
  2. A BCC consultant will contact each applicant to schedule an initial consultation appointment.
  3. For graduate students/medical students/clinical fellows, we highly recommend that their advisor/mentor attend the initial consultation meeting.
  4. Please bring to the first meeting as many of the following items as apply: 1- any documentation of your study, e.g. study proposal/plan, background introduction, draft manuscript, reference papers, etc; 2- all raw data, e.g. excel file, SPSS data file, etc.
  5. During the initial meeting, the consultant will give you an estimated timeframe for your project based on the project complexity and current workload. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) may be needed after the initial meeting. Please realize that any additional analysis beyond the initial agreement may require extra time and increase the costs. We will keep you updated if the estimated time frame dramatically changes and a new MOU may be needed.
  6. For consultation requests with a project deadline, please have them submitted at least four weeks prior to the deadline to ensure sufficient statistical support.
  7. All resultant publications should acknowledge the provided statistical support appropriately. Typically short-term consulting is acknowledged in the appropriate section of the paper. Co-authorship should be granted if the statistician has been involved from study design to resultant data analysis, or is instrumental in analyzing the data, interpreting the results, and writing the statistical analysis section of the paper. Co-authorship is independent of consulting fee related to the project.
  8. For grant related consulting activities, there is no charge for initial grant development for faculty members within the School of Medicine if the proposed budget includes future BCC support. Depending on the nature of the grant, it may require % FTE of the participating biostatistician.  To provide sufficient support to your application and hence increase your chance of getting your grant awarded, please contact us well before the deadline (at least 6 weeks before) as the grant application deadlines tend to be clustered together.
