Answer: BCC is a fee-for-service facility because support staff in the BCC is paid from charges for service. The charges were determined by the university and are comparable to those at most major universities. Our current charge rate is $66-$82/hr, depending on the level of expertise required. The first hour of consultation is complimentary. Most projects should aim to set aside from $2,000 to $5,000 for biostatistical services. Charges for short courses/workshops will be determined after discussing the scope. Biostatistical assistance in any grant development is no charge given adequate FTE support for the participating biostatistician is budgeted in the grant proposal and depending on the nature of grant application the biostatistician should be included as a co-PI or co-Investigator. Different fees apply for outside of Stony Brook University.
